Bed, Bath, and Behind

Posted By Lauren

Tonight I was in a house with a peculiar master bedroom. The bed-appropriate area was decently spacious, with off-white carpet. Then there was a raised platford with a vanity-style mirror and sink. It also had an inlaid bathtub with carpeting on all sides. It seems like it could be nice to have a sink and bath in one’s bedroom, unconventional, but maybe useful. I could see it being comfortable not having to dash down the hall from my bubble bath to my bed. Actually, it could be really romantic being able to go between bed and bath with such ease. Nevertheless, this bed and bathroom also has a toilet. Not so romantic. Sure, it’s hiding behind a half-wall partition; but still, nobody wants to do that where they sleep. Nobody even wants to think about that. This is convenience going too far, to the point where it’s inconvenient, the noises, the lingering smells.

I’m guessing this must have been the style in some bygone decade, to have the bathroom in the bedroom. I don’t know when it was considered a good idea, but I blame the 70’s. If anybody knows for sure, please let me know.
