Staccato Gelato

Posted By Lauren

It seems like there is a prerequisite that gelato shops in Portland must be adorable to the point of tooth decay. My favorite, possibly due to proximity, is Staccato Gelato in NE. It is decorated with sincere cotton-candy pastel sweetness and the gelato tastes like magic.

There is a play area for children on the right, just before the counter. Part of the wall is a chalkboard for them to draw on. Balloon-like white paper orbs hang against a dark blue ceiling, illuminating the room. The other theme colors are light blue, orange, and yellow. It sounds like a potentially disastrous combination, but the orange stimulates the appetite, the yellow attracts and uplifts, while the blue gives everything a dream quality. A surprisingly painless yellow plastic sofa is placed against the window, joined by two bright orange sitting chairs. On the wall opposite the counter magestic bubbles in purples and reds scatter like a herd of hot air balloons in a blue sky, or seedpods on the wind.
