Portland’s Modern Homes

Posted By Kyley

The ego involved in the modern design world is enough to make me want to heave up the old middle finger and go back to my simple log frame saltbox home with exposed insulation, pooping in an outhouse, and lugging water in bucket from the stream. Still, I can’t help but love modern design. I particularly love it here in Portland, where the hard lines brightness clash with the greenery and gray days. Sometimes the applications happens to be that of Loggerville meets the Jetsons, and that combo of wood and steel really fires me up.

In my home quest, I’ve looked at every thing from garbage cookie cutter Pearl District condos to ridiculously priced fixer uppers in a “soon to explode” neighborhood. Wading through the crap to even find these pieces of coal was fairly tedious, and being the DIY kinda guy I am, I had no interest in using an agent to help me find a place. (On the other hand, a buyer’s agent is a must for me when it comes to getting the wheels turning).

So today I stumbled across Portland Modern and I actually enjoyed looking at all of the listings, even the ones clearly labeled as sold. Many were out of my price range, but it at least brought me a little bit of that good old window shopping fantasy excitement, something I hadn’t felt in awhile. I loved the inside shots with requisite large windows, and of course…wood. Lot’s of wood. To be perfectly cliche it’s not the outside that’s important, it’s the interior that counts. Ugh…punch me next time I say that.
Anyway, if you have modern home fantasies, check it out, even if you are just chasing a pipe dream it has reinjected a little inspiration in me.
