Phò Vàn on Hawthorne
I had dinner at Phò Vàn on Hawthorne last night. The food was pretty good, but I was really impressed with the lighting. I loved the hanging lamps over the booths and along the back wall.
The lamps over the booths drew my attention before I walked in the restaurant. They were tan …

Just say NO to (fake) weed(s)!
Fake plants are never acceptable in my world of interior design. I don’t care if it’s just in a corner or up on a ledge where nobody can inspect it closely. I don’t care if you don’t have enough time to water real plants or just don’t have that green thumb. Don’t …

No Fish Go Fish
No Fish Go Fish advertises comfort food. Good hearty soup and adorable fish-shaped grilled sandwiches. I’ve developed a special fondness for No Fish Go Fish food after I ended up taking a sudden ambulance ride to the hospital last year. On the way home the doctors recommended I eat some soup and No Fish Go …

A Bit More on the Bamboo Buzz
I’m feeling under the weather again and as we can look outside and see, the weather is quite above us all. I’m not going out to explore Portland for us today. Instead, I thought I’d do a little follow-up on the bamboo craze.

Chic and Shambles- The Hollywood Theater
According to Citysearch, The Hollywood Theater is a “historic art deco theater.” It’s 80 years old and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. There’s a pretty good history of the place here.
Parts of the theater are ornate and alluring in their antiquity. Glorious red curtains in the theater and arched …

Staccato Gelato
It seems like there is a prerequisite that gelato shops in Portland must be adorable to the point of tooth decay. My favorite, possibly due to proximity, is Staccato Gelato in NE. It is decorated with sincere cotton-candy pastel sweetness and the gelato tastes like magic.
There is a play area for children on …

Noun- A Person’s Place for Things
Eye candy and mouth candy team up.
Stephanie, the creator of Noun, went to highschool in Ohio with the creator of St. Cupcake. In the time between now and then, the two intrepid ladies made their way to Portland, got jobs, and got sick of them. A couple years ago they both decided together …
