Damn Hippies Building Green Again

It is easy to bemoan the overuse of buzzwords like “sustainable” and “green design”. For the most part it seems to be to be P.C. environmentalist appeasement shrapnel from marketing grenade launched by local land developers. It’s easy to become jaded, literally, when “green” can be added as a status symbol amongst our local icons of conspicuous consumption.

And while my I love to raise the ire of local progressives with my apathy towards idealistic pursuits, I have to respect Portland’s businesses and community folks that promote green living as a matter of scruples. These people don’t volley them about as part of their overall marketing strategy. So here is a list of my four favorites (yeah, I’m a sucker for wood products)

Green House Framing - Reclaimed wood picture frames
Altruwood - FSC Certified Lumber, reclaimed/recycled beams + more
Environmental Building Supplies - Excellent local green building product supplier
Endura Wood - More FSC Certified Lumber

For about 50 million more links, you should check out Portland/Vancouver Redirect Guide, a local directory of sustainable living. You can find all kinds of good stuff there.
