Cult of Domesticity Has Little Style
Posted By LaurenI spent my entire weekend at the Northwest Women’s Show, which ran from Friday October 19th to Sunday October 22nd at the convention center. What was supposed to be “An Event of Spirit and Style” had a little spirit but almost no style.
What I had expected the Northwest Women’s Show to be was very different from what I discovered on Friday morning. Instead of sportswear, women’s health issues, and feminist empowerment speakers, it was makeup, coupons, and cooking show hosts. I found a bustling beehive in the cult of domesticity.
Yet this was no home sweet honeycomb. Despite it being so domestically oriented, the women’s show had very little to do with something as fun as interior design. Housekeeping, yes, but not house decorating. All clean up and no creating. It’s like tidying up for a party that never happened. There was a booth about windows. There was a booth about bathtubs, but that was about all. Nothing even as exciting as a set of matching towels.
